ShelfCount: Stock Take · Last updated 13 August 2026
The short version
ShelfCount reads your products, inventory levels and locations so you can count stock, and writes inventory adjustments when you commit a count.
It has no access to your customers, your orders, or your revenue. This is not a promise about how we behave. The app does not request those permissions, so Shopify would refuse the request if it tried.
What we access
ShelfCount requests exactly four permissions:
read_products: product names, variants, SKUs and barcodes, so counters can identify what they are holdingread_inventory: current stock levels, to calculate variancewrite_inventory: to apply adjustments when you commit a countread_locations: to let you choose which location to count
Shopify classifies all four as low-sensitivity.
What we store
ShelfCount stores:
- Your shop domain and which plan you are on
- The staff user id Shopify assigns to whoever starts a count, so that only that person can see variance or commit the count
- A snapshot of the products in each count: titles, variants, SKUs, barcodes, expected quantities and unit costs
- Each scan: the item, the quantity, a device identifier, whether the device is a phone or a desktop, and a timestamp
- The adjustments written when a count is committed
Counts are attributed to a device, not a person. A scan records a device label such as Phone or Desktop, and never a name. The one exception is the person who starts a count: we keep the numeric id Shopify already gave them, because it is what stops everyone else in the store from opening the variance report. No names, no email addresses, no staff records.
What we never store
- Customer names, addresses, emails or phone numbers
- Orders, carts, or anything about a purchase
- Payment details of any kind
- Revenue or sales figures
Deleting your data
When you uninstall, your access token is destroyed immediately and your data is deleted 48 hours later. The delay exists so a reinstall the next morning does not lose your stocktake history.
On request, we delete everything immediately. Shopify also sends an automatic deletion request when a store closes, which we honour.
We hold no customer data, so a request about a specific shopper has nothing for us to return or erase.
Where your count data is stored
Fly.io runs the application and Neon hosts the database, both in the United States. Data from the EEA or UK is transferred there.
Data is encrypted in transit. We do not sell it, share it for advertising, or use it to train anything.
Your rights
Depending on where you are, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your data, and to object to how it is handled. Email genecogni@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days. Merchants in the EEA and UK can also complain to their local data protection authority.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or how long we keep it, the date at the top changes and the previous version stays available on request.
